Language Table at Lunch

Everybody knows the best way to learn a foreign language is by speaking. In your day-to-day routine, however, it is often hard to put your foreign language to work for lack of a native speaker to speak with.

At noon on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, CLUBOFFICE is introducing a ‘Language Lunch Table’ so that there is an opportunity every week to speak a foreign language with one another in a practical and relaxed environment. Ideally we would like to organize different tables for different languages. This coming Monday we will be starting with English. In order to establish these other tables, we are open to suggestions!

The Language Table is on the 9th floor of the CLUBOFFICE Berlin building. At the beginning, we will meet Wednesdays and be speaking English. Participation is free and available to all interested persons. The flag of the appropriate country whose language is being spoken on that day will mark the table.

You can register by calling +49 (0)30 21 50 2010

Nightowls is a movement of people who work at night, which has its roots in New York. Nightowl-groups originated subsequently in different states in the US (San Franciso, Los Angeles, etc.) as well as in Europe (such as in Stockholm) and Australia, with more and more groups having popped up in the last couple months. CLUBOFFICE provides the space, internet, and everything else that is necessary (especially coffee) for a Berlin group.

All people who do not want to work alone at night and would like to take advantage of working in a community are welcome!

The new year kicks off with good news

CLUBOFFICE kicked off the New Year with a whole series of new innovations. For those who missed their advents calendars, we are announcing another, positive innovation every day this week.

Innovation 1: Free conference room use

ClubOffice Frankfurt - Konferenzraum - Seminarraum - Schulungsraum

Up until now, all the CLUBOFFICE rates included only a limited number of conference room use-hours. From January 1, 2011 on, the use of the MeetingOne conference rooms is included in all rates (except Easy). As of now, the conference room MeetingOne can been used for meetings for free.

Innovation 2: Phone number with answering service

We believe that in 2011 all businesses should be reachable. We believe that answering machines are the same as being ‘unreachable.’ We believe it’s especially important that at small companies, calls are answered personally.

We know, however, that freelancers and companies with fewer personal, who are frequently in meetings or concentrating on their work, cannot always immediately answer the phone.

But we’ve come up with a solution! The telephone secretary service from CLUBOFFICE answers incoming calls for Clubworkers – in the name of their firm – and either transfers the call to the desired person, or takes a message when the Clubworker is unavailable. Therefore, all the individual companies working in CLUBOFFICE are always reachable under their own name. The telephone secretary always competently, friendly and reliably answers calls.

Because we know that businesses, especially smaller ones, have too little time to care for all the needs of their clients themselves, a local telephone number is now included in ever rate (except for the Easy-rate). This number is directly connected to the telephone secretary.

Innovation 3: Videoconference in all meeting rooms

In the first week of 2011, videoconference and presentation systems were installed in all MeetingOne conference rooms. The use of this system, just like the use of the conference rooms, is included in all rates (except the Easy Rate). CLUBOFFICE would like to provide its Clubworkers with more modern means of communication as an included service, in order to raise professionalism and productivity.

All the systems are compatible with the current high-end videoconference systems, such as LifeSize, Polycom and Cisco-Tandberg, as well as the wide-spread videoconference system, Skype. Thanks to the mobile capability of Skype, smaller companies and freelancers can be connected with remote stations, that don’t have their own expensive video conferencing technology.

The virtual connection to these individual sites is due to the centrally accessible videoconferencing system, which is simpler, more direct and livelier than ever before.

Videoconferences save time, travel-costs and especially the environment.

In the photo you can see the newly delivered systems that we stayed up late into the night to configure for you.

Innovation 4: All-around communication's solution

Effective immediately, CLUBOFFICE is providing the perfect all-around availability-solution for freelancers and small businesses. With CLUBOFFICE “Connect 1”, Clubworkers will receive an internal phone extension, either as a ‘soft phone’, on your personal computer (Windows or Mac) or as a ‘hard phone’, either as a desk phone or as a cordless phone. With the internal extension, calls within your own company will be free of charge. The telephone extension functions worldwide over the internet and can thus also be used in your home office or while you’re out and about.

A local area network telephone number, from the respective main site, is connected with the internal extension, so that Clubworkers can be reached via a regular landline telephone number. This number can also be used on their website and business cards. If need be, additional telephone numbers from other cities (for example, Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, London, Paris, etc.) can be connected, so that people can conveniently be reached in multiple countries via a landline.

Although fax machines don’t play as important a role for businesses these days as they did years back, serious businesses are still expected to have the capability. Therefore, “Connect 1”, along with the local telephone number, also has a local fax number, with all the necessarily software needed to send and receive faxes as PDFs or emails.

To top off “Connect 1”, an individual telephone secretary, who answers incoming calls for particular Clubworkers in the name of their company, has been integrated.

Clubworkers can immediately reserve this package, consisting of an internal extension, a local telephone number, a local fax number, and a telephone secretary. For companies with more team members, individual extensions with corresponding local telephone numbers can also be reserved.

Christmas Gift - more bandwidth: 100Mbits

Just in time for Christmas, CLUBOFFICE has one more gift for all Clubworkers, in the form of 100 MB of bandwidth. The new bandwidth is available from December 12, 2010 and should enable faster and more timely work. (The password is Cloud-Computing)

All Clubworkers also benefit from this increase in bandwidth with their own personal router and CLUBOFFICE data-links with fixed IPs. The backup network over the 20 MB SDSL remains.

Saint Nicolas is coming - Christmas get-together

On Monday, December 6, 2010, at 5:00 PM in CLUBOFFICE Berlin a before-Christmas-get-together for Clubworkers, CLUBOFFICE perspectives, and family and friends took place.

Coworking Allgäu paid a visit to the St. Nicolas party, which subsequently led to everyone cooking together.

After baking Christmas cookies together and drinking spiced wine, Schnitzel and Spaghetti were cooked. It was tasty! We thank everyone for coming and the shared fun.

Coworking Europe get-together in Brussels

On the November 19 & 20, 2010, co-working operators and perspectives met for the first time in a joint conference. On the first day, a series of lectures on different topics were given. The German co-working scene was represented by a lot of spaces and all in all there was a very big group at the event. For some countries, the networking and open operational space of the German spaces served as an example and on the second day there was an interesting exchange between the participants, in the form of a barcamp. The event exceeded the expectations of many participants and was considered success. American participants also took part in the European get-together. All in all more than 120 people from 20 countries took place in this first-of-its-kind event.

ClubOffice - Coworking Week

TV-spot about ClubOffice on RTL

What is Coworking?

Coworking is a style of work which involves a shared working environment, sometimes an office, yet independent activity. Unlike in a typical office environment, those coworking are usually not employed by the same organization. Typically it is attractive to work-at-home professionals, independent contractors, or people who travel frequently who end up working in relative isolation. Coworking is the social gathering of a group of people, who are still working independently, but who share values, and who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with talented people in the same space.

Some coworking spaces were developed by nomadic internet entrepreneurs seeking an alternative to working in coffeeshops and cafes, or to isolation in independent or home offices.A 2007 survey showed that many employees worry about feeling isolated and losing human interaction if they were to telecommute. Roughly a third of both private and public-sector workers also reported that they didn’t want to stay at home during work. Coworking offers a solution to the problem of isolation that many freelancers experience while working at home, while at the same time letting them escape the distractions of home.[

What are Coworkingspaces?

Coworking spaces are now open in cities around the world.

Coworking is not only about the physical space but initially and mostly about establishing the Coworking community first. The benefits of Coworking can already be experienced outside of Coworking spaces and it is recommended to start with building a Coworking community first before considering opening a Coworking space. However, some Coworking Spaces don't build a community, they just get a part of an existing one by combining their opening with an event which attracts their target group.

A lot of Coworking communities are formed by organizing Casual Coworking events (e.g. Jellies) that can take place in people's living room or in public places such as suitable cafes, galleries or multi-functional spaces. During these events Coworkers can experience the benefits of Coworking and get to know each other which lowers the barriers to join a Coworking space later.

What is a Business Center?

A serviced office also known as an "executive suite" or 'executive space' is an office or office building that is fully equipped and managed by a facility management company, which then rents individual offices or floors to other companies. Serviced offices, which are also referred to as managed offices, business centers, executive suites or executive centers, are often found in the business districts of large cities around the world.

Companies offering serviced offices are generally able to offer more flexible rental terms, as opposed to a conventional leased office which may require furnishing, equipment, and more restrictive leases. Space is normally flexible, allowing for additional space to be allocated at short notice, should the size of an individual business change. Serviced office providers often allow tenants to share reception services, business machines and other resources, providing reduced costs and access to equipment which may otherwise be unaffordable.
